Caroline Zhang
With a photographer’s eye for the poignant frame, Caroline Zhang (b.2002) captures delicate moments with an emotional heft that belies their finely rendered surfaces. Built on a fascination with the figure, material, and light, Zhang’s oil paintings studiously observe the fleeting: Wisps of hair, gauzy plant life and clouded window panes catch glimpses of sunlight. Well-worn fabrics hum with textural depth, and intimate figures are cropped down to their most universal expressions. Both tender and melancholic in tone, Zhang’s paintings welcome viewers into a world where ephemeral experiences feel all-encompassing.
Zhang will be receiving her BFA in 2025 from the Rhode Island School of Design and her Sc.B from Brown University, currently enrolled in the Brown/RISD Dual Degree Program in Providence, RI. Her work has recently been included in shows at 72 Warren St, New York, NY (2024); Afternoon Projects, Vancouver, CA (2023); and Gern en Regalia, New York, NY (2023).
