THE NOOK at NARANJO 141 is pleased to present Dating, an installation part of Archive, a solo exhibition of new works by Justin Chance (b.1993, New York). This exhibition marks the artist’s first solo presentation in Mexico. 

An extension of ideas explored throughout the rest of the exhibition, Dating is a series of 19 works on paper mounted on canvas made in direct reference to the artist’s time in residence. Each drawing begins outlined and is then colored by an inch once a day and dated until completed. 

Like the horizontal weave of a floor loom operated for days, or the image produced by a printer emitting lines of ink in seconds, each row of the timed-drawings in the series Dating were filled in by the artist at the same time each day, the final whimsical images accruing with the passage of time. Jokes, puns and playful gestures express themselves from behind the bars of their strictly regimented execution.
