Georgina Stone

Georgina Stone

Georgina Stone’s (b.1996) work stems from the never-ending possibilities of paint. Starting from photos of nostalgic Disney films, cheeky stickers in storefronts, or graffiti iconography on the street, Stone lets the gestural will of the paint come to life: emotive, confident marks spill over the subtly inscribed grid, welcoming viewers into pictorial spaces that feel naive and witty, overtly-feminine and earnestly aware of themselves. Sometimes labored, sometimes quickly-etched out, each unfolding conversation with the canvas reveals a different push and pull of desire and inhibition.

Stone received her BA in Painting from the University of Brighton, Brighton, UK in 2018, and subsequently received her MA in Painting from the Royal College of Art, London, UK in 2024. Her work has recently been included in exhibitions at Guts Gallery, London, UK (2024); Greatorex Street, London, UK (2024); and Safehouse 2, London, UK (2023). She was shortlisted for the Hari Art Prize (2024) and The Waverton Art Prize (2024). Stone lives and works in London, UK.
