Lea Mugnaini
In a practice that encompasses collaged drawing and bronze work, Lea Mugnaini (b.1992) probes the primordial to create organic figures that inhabit symbolic worlds. Traces of dreams, memories, and places are synthesized into a visual vocabulary that spans the mythological and the elemental: a plant uprooting a sidewalk in Mexico City, a silhouette reoccurring in a dream, or a sliver of a figure glimpsed in profile become ingredients in a procession of forms that is at once figurative and abstract. Culled from the collective unconscious but still deeply tethered to the artist’s immediate environment, each piece evokes a realm in which the viewer can interact, imagine, and play.
Mugnaini received her Meisterschüler Fine Arts from the Universität der Künste Berlin, Berlin, DE in the class Monica Bonvicini in 2022. She has been the subject of solo exhibitions at KWADRAT Gallery, Berlin, DE (2023) and HOTO, Berlin, DE (2023). Her work has recently been included in exhibitions at König Galerie, Mexico City (2024); Maison Soleille, Ibiza, ES (2024); and Museum Reinickendorf, Berlin, DE (2023). Mugnaini lives and works between Mexico City, MX and Berlin, DE.
